Atletico vs Chelsea: Why is a Bucharest stadium hosting the Champions League match tonight?
European football is back but with a series of site changes.
Last week Liverpool and Tottenham – in the Champions League and Europa League respectively – played at Puskas Arena in Budapest although they did not play against the Hungarian. RB Leipzig and Wolfsberger both hosted their home games away from home.
On Tuesday, Atletico Madrid will play their “home” game against Chelsea in Bucharest, Romania. The Arena Nationala will be the stadium.
This is due to travel restrictions preventing visitors from Britain from entering Spain following the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant last month.
The return leg remains set for Stamford Bridge on March 17.
