Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto honored with statue
Hungarian sculptors Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly have unveiled a statue of Satoshi Nakamoto – the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.
The bronze bust depicts a masked Satoshi with a shiny golden face intended to reflect the viewer as a way to show that the founder of the decentralized financial revolution could be any of us.
The artists behind the ‘StatueofSatoshi’ project (now in Graphisoft Park on the banks of the Danube) explained the philosophy that guides their art.
“Our goal is to create a true memorial for Satoshi, whoever he is, wherever he is at the moment,” they said.
“The underlying technology that Satoshi Nakamoto presented to the world can really improve our lives. Transparency, fairness, several other values in many areas, this is what blockchain really means.
“Satoshi has a very important heritage.”
It appears the statue was a success, with massive crowds present to watch the artists unveil the piece.
The result of months of work, the bronze bust was a community-funded effort, with artists only accepting donations of cryptocurrency.
