Central Europe must also benefit from greater influence over EU political decisions
“The peoples of Central Europe must also have more influence over political decisions; the European Union can no longer function solely on the Franco-German axis ”, declared Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in an interview published in the Czech conservative daily Lidové Noviny. Saturday, in which he called Czech head of government Andrej Babis one of Europe’s greatest fighters.
Viktor Orbán underlined: “In Europe, the highest economic growth rates are found in the Central European region, the Baltic States, the V4 countries, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania. Without this, the EU would have little economic growth today, and would be a stagnant continent ”.
“People used to think that Central European countries were unable to make their economies work without Western countries, but the situation has since turned around; Western countries cannot make their own economies work without Central Europe. “, he recalled.
According to the Prime Minister, for this reason, the fact that the V4 countries can succeed in shaping the future of the EU is not just a dream. “This is what I call a new reality in Europe,” he said.
Viktor Orbán said: “Hungary must remain in the European Union; the single market is in the country’s interest. proportional to the real economic performance of the region. “We believe that compared to our actual economic performance and weight, our influence over EU decisions is disproportionate. This needs to be changed, ”he noted.
Regarding the protection of traditional national identity, the Prime Minister declared: “The winners will be those who will be the most persevering”. “Education, family policy, schooling and media regulation are all issues that fall under national jurisdiction, no one can take them away from us,” he explained.
Mr. Orbán called the awakened movement which is gaining ground intensely in the West as “new Marxism”, which “although it uses different words, follows the same ideological patterns as Marxism”. “Marxism becomes successful or popular if it is preceded by a few decades of liberal governance and preparation in which culture, tradition, history and religion are ignored,” he noted. But in Central Europe, “we are vaccinated against Marxism,” “we have a vaccine, an awakened vaccine,” because Marxism has been in power here for 45 years, Mr. Orbán said. “For the West, Marxism is an intellectual question, but in Central Europe we know that if the economy and society are organized on a Marxist basis, then it will become a dictatorship, because Marxism and democracy are not compatible with each other, ”he added.
According to Viktor Orbán, the West was a unique life form that emerged from Christianity and incorporated rationality, of which enlightenment and rationality became an intrinsic part. “By combining them, it has become the most competitive and prosperous world on Earth. This is what we are losing now because we are abandoning our historical and Christian foundations, ”he stressed.
The Prime Minister noted that he had hoped that the accession of Central European countries to the European Union would bring anti-Communist, anti-Marxist and anti-Leninist sentiment to the existing pan-European culture, but they did not. do not want.
In the interview, the Prime Minister made it clear with regard to the law on child protection: “Hungary has passed a law stipulating that parents have an exclusive right to school education and education. relating to sexual matters, and that LGBTQ activists or representatives of any other ideology are not competent in this matter. Brussels wants to crush this, and their point of view is that LGBTQ activists should be allowed in schools ”. He stressed that the new law does not apply to people over 18 years old. “It’s all about protecting children,” Orbán confirmed.
The prime minister said that French President Emanuel Macron’s recent suggestion that the EU should practice an independent foreign policy is an interesting idea. “We approach the idea with a desire for understanding; Hungary is indeed happy to participate in the debates concerning strategic autonomy and sovereignty,” he said.
Ha also mentioned that it is possible to make up for the fact that the V4 countries do not speak in the same tone when it comes to Russian issues. “One of the most important tasks of the European Union should be precisely to provide a European security and military guarantee to Poland and the Baltic States,” he said.
Regarding the disputes over natural gas, Mr Orbán said: “We can wave our fists, but the reality is that Europe cannot function without Russian gas today”.
The recent visit to Budapest by Pope Francis was also recalled during the interview, about which Mr. Orbán said: “Those who believe that Christianity is not only part of the past, but also of the future , must join forces. Today there are many power groups who want to bring the European continent into a post-Christian era, and this idea is particularly popular among the ranks of the Brussels bureaucrats. ”Considering the fact that the greatest Christian power in world politics is after all the Vatican, he humbly asked his Holy Father to help him continue to exist as a Christian, the prime minister said.
Regarding migration, Mr. Orbán said: “There is a double standard in Europe”. Referring to the fences built by Hungary and the Baltic states, he said: “If a liberal government does something it is always good, but if a conservative government does something it is always bad, even if the two things are one and the same. “.
According to the Prime Minister, the EU should not admit Afghan migrants; they must stay in the region and Europe must help the countries of the region cope with the burden of those leaving Afghanistan. “But if the Germans wish, Hungary will be happy to open a corridor, and the Afghan refugees can use it to reach Germany,” he said.
He drew attention to the fact that Brussels will repeatedly continue to force the distribution of migrants over member states, “and we will have to repeatedly veto this in Council meetings, as we have done there. several years ago with Prime Minister Andrej Babis “.
“EU money is something to which we owe, it must be given to us in the long term, but Brussels is capable of slowing down the decision”, he stressed. “This is why the Hungarian state has contracted enough money on the money market, four and a half billion euros in credit at an interest rate of less than 1%, a good deal, to allow the launch of all the development projects necessary for the recovery. following the coronavirus. Not a cent has arrived from Brussels, but the Hungarian programs are already working “, he stressed.
Regarding the introduction of an overall corporate tax rate of 15%, Mr Orbán said: “I usually do not support any international decision that seeks to interfere in the tax policies of different Member States”.
Regarding Hungarian domestic policy issues, Orbán referred to the fact that “European pressure groups and bureaucrats” have remained silent on the bloody crackdown on demonstrations following Őszöd’s speech, as they are left-wing, and always forgive the misdeeds committed by leftist governments.
“In Hungary, the current government is fighting against its predecessor, and the challenge now is to prevent the return of participants in Gyurcsány governance,” the Prime Minister explained of the issues during the Hungarian political struggles. “The electorate does not forget; that is why we have won three times in a row, and that is why we will also win a fourth time, ”said Orbán.
He drew a parallel between anti-Orbán political cooperation in Hungary and anti-Babi political cooperation in the Czech Republic, saying: “The processes are the same in all countries of Central Europe. When a great power does not like a government in Central Europe. , they are trying to help a group that sympathizes with them and serves their interests to take power “.
“Those protesting on the European side are actually protesting against Czech and Hungarian sovereignty, and this is supported from the outside by the ‘Soros network’ and the Brussels bureaucracy. Today Brussels needs rather subservient governments. that of those who fight for the independence of their country “, underlined the Prime Minister.
Regarding relations between Czechs and Hungarians, he said: “There are differences between the two peoples: Hungarians are more attracted to Christian intellectual traditions, and national sentiment is also more radical among Hungarians, and that is also seen in the manner of the two leaders, but no one can deny that Andrej Babis is one of the greatest fighters in Europe “.
Reacting to the German elections, Mr Orbán said: “Something new is happening in Germany”. “I am used to stressing the German leaders; Bismarck, Helmut Kohl and also Angela Merkel were such leaders. If there is a dispute, a leader is always able to sum up and close those disputes, and then create a predictable Germany. The big question now is whether this electoral result gives birth to a predictable and reliable Germany led by a grand chancellor. ”
