Euros Group F permutations for France, Germany, Portugal and Hungary today
The so-called Group of Death is still alive and well tonight with Germany, Portugal and Hungary hoping to join France in the round of 16.
The results of the previous round opened Group F wide with Germany beating Portugal 4-2 and Hungary holding world champions France to a 1-1 draw.
After losing their opener to France and also falling behind Portugal, Germany seemed in real peril but will now imagine their chances of dominating the group given they face Hungary.
Here’s how things are going in the squad and the permutations of how the four teams can advance to the knockout stages …
Other meetings (Wednesday 23 June)
The world champions have already finished. First place goes to them if they beat Portugal, or with a draw if Germany doesn’t beat Hungary.
If France lost and Hungary beat Germany, second place would go to goal difference.
Defeating Hungary and Germany are in the round of 16. A draw would do as well if Portugal didn’t beat France.
If Germany wins and France fails, Joachim Low’s team would be at the top of the group. However, it will be third place if they draw and France lose, or if they lose to Portugal.
The holders will qualify for the round of 16 by beating France, or with a draw coupled with a victory for Hungary.
The first place is possible with a victory provided that Germany does not win.
Meanwhile, Portugal could drop to fourth place if they lose to France and Hungary also beat Germany.
The Hungarians are still in the game and will finish second if they win and France beats Portugal. The second would be decided on goal difference if they win and France loses.
The third is activated if they win and France and Portugal also draw.
