Hungarian gets hit by train on purpose, loses both legs for insurance money

This guy went out of his way to make money and lost two as a result.

A man in Hungary was intentionally struck by a train and lost both of his legs in order to obtain insurance money.

The Daily Mail reports how the man, known only as Sandor Cs. Due to the country’s strict privacy laws, he climbed the train tracks in the village of Nyircsazari in 2014 with the brilliant idea that having his legs crushed would earn him a refund of £ 2.4million (or US $ 3.2 million).

The first half of Sandor’s plan was successful; he was indeed struck by the train and lost both legs as a result. It wasn’t until the second half of the plot – getting the millions of dollars – that failed.

7 News Australia continues to report how a court in Pest, a town near Budapest, recently handed down a two-year suspended prison sentence for how Sandor deliberately tried to defraud the system. In addition to that, he was also fined.

“Of course, this is not what I expected, I am disappointed,” Sandor says of the court ruling, which he has the opportunity to appeal.

The International Business Times explains how Sandor claims he stepped on glass and lost his balance, causing him to fall in front of the train. However, authorities became suspicious when they realized the man had taken out 14 high-risk life insurance policies before the crash, with claims filed by his wife just after being hit by the train.

Several of Sandor’s claims remain unresolved.
