We can only protect our lives and our freedom with vaccines
On Monday, in his address to Parliament before the start of ordinary business, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán proposed a defense based on vaccination against the coronavirus. The Prime Minister drew attention to the outstanding performance of the Hungarian economy.
He said it’s a kind of virus that only the vaccine can defeat. The three waves of the epidemic have shown that restrictions and the wearing of face masks are not enough to stop the spread of the virus, let alone defeat it. If enough people are vaccinated, we won’t have to go back to confinement and wearing face masks, but instead, we can resume our normal life, the life we are used to, he stressed.
He said that two doses of the vaccine already offer protection, but experts strongly recommend that people take a third. “Based on our current knowledge, about the third dose, we can say that it is better to have it than not to have it. Those who have the third dose will be better protected anyway than those who do not. ‘don’t have any,’ he added. said, adding that so far 525,000 people have received the third dose of the vaccine and that up to 17 million doses will be available by the end of the year.
He observed that the vast majority of Hungarians have already been vaccinated and are safe. He asked those who had not yet been vaccinated to get vaccinated.
He stressed that the country is preparing for the fourth wave and that the government will propose the extension of the special legal order and the state of danger until the end of the year.
He said the vaccine works, so does Hungary. The Hungarian economy has emerged from the blocks; according to second quarterly data, gross domestic product rose 17.9 percent, the strongest growth on record. The performance of the Hungarian economy is already above the pre-pandemic level, while in the majority of EU member states this has not yet happened.
According to Orbán, the government will be able to raise the economic growth rate to a low of 5.5% this year, but that figure could be even higher by the end of the year.
Data from July shows that the number of people with jobs exceeds 4.7 million, he said, noting that never before, since the fall of communism, have so many people had a job in Hungary. In eleven years, nearly a million new jobs have emerged, and “we are only a stone’s throw from full employment,” he said.
He stressed that the national consultation, during which 1,423,000 responses were received, obliges the government to take decisions. They have already adopted the first decision: they have extended the moratorium on the repayment of credit debt for the needy.
By February 15, 2022, they will refund personal income tax paid in 2021 to parents raising children. Small business owners who are raising children will also receive a tax refund. In total, in February 2022, the tax authorities will reimburse HUF 600 billion to 1.9 million parents.
He added that this year, retirees will receive another inflation supplement and they will also receive a share of the results of strong economic growth. The expected amount of the pension premium will exceed 50,000 HUF. In February 2022, the reintroduction of the 13th monthly pension will continue; next February, they will be able to pay each retiree at least two weeks of additional pension, he said.
At the start of 2022, the government will pay professional staff in the armed forces and law enforcement a half-yearly bonus. From January 1, 2022, they will introduce the exemption from paying personal income tax for young workers under 25. Talks are underway to raise the minimum wage to 200,000 HUF, and there is a good chance that an agreement will be reached, he said, indicating that, in line with the national consultation, the government wishes to extend constitutional protection for family allowances. , low taxes on work and pensions as well.
The prime minister also said at the request of the United States that Hungary had participated in the mission in Afghanistan and had withdrawn with them. It appears the United States misjudged the situation in Afghanistan, he said.
Mr Orbán praised the Hungarian soldiers for standing firm, but believes that the danger has not passed, the crisis in Afghanistan could provoke new waves of migration. He said Hungary’s policy remains unchanged and the borders need to be strengthened.
He stressed that the Balkan route was again saturated and that George Soros’ organizations continue to help migrants. Compared to last year, the number of illegal border workers and smugglers has tripled.
He said “Hungary is continuously being shot in the back from Brussels”, but the government will not back down and protect the borders despite all political pressure. He stressed that the migration debate is destroying the unity of the EU, and in the interest of preserving unity, they propose that all relevant powers be returned to the member states.
We will not allow any sexual propaganda targeting children, the prime minister said as part of the infringement proceedings against child protection legislation. He said Brussels is attacking laws that do not allow sex propaganda in schools and advertisements, and they formally called on Hungary to change its laws on public education, advertising and the media.
“Their demands are absurd and contrary to the Hungarian belief that parents have the exclusive right to decide on the sex education of their children,” he said.
He recalled that on this issue, the Hungarian people will have the last word in a referendum on child protection. He added that in Hungary people decide on both migration and child protection. In contrast, in Brussels and in pro-migration and LGBTQ countries, this has never been the case, the elite decided on these issues, not the people, he stressed.
Regarding the stimulus fund, he said that Brussels has not yet found an agreement with 8 countries, which is contrary to the basic principle of fair competition. Hungary calls on the Commission to urgently abandon its policy of distinguishing between Member States, but as Hungary cannot therefore find itself at a competitive disadvantage, the government will launch the necessary programs, he said. he declares.
He finally stressed that the representation of the national interest is the most important, and unless the government acts accordingly, Hungary will fall back to where it was before 2010.
